The JazzTM apple is firm, crisp and sweet flavoured with hints of peaches and melon. The JazzTM apple presents with a pink/red blush over a light green background. JazzTM apples are a cross between the Gala and Braeburn varieties and have been grown in New Zealand since the 1980’s. JazzTM apples have only been available to Australian consumers since 2007. It is now being grown in Australian orchards in area’s including Batlow (NSW), Huon Valley (TAS), Adelaide Hills (SA), Stanthorpe (QLD), Manjimup (WA), Northern Tasmania and Southern Victoria
The JazzTM apple is considered small to medium in size, and is currently available from April to June. This availability period is increasing as the Australian orchards mature, with availability expected to be from April to December by 2013.
Did you know? The JazzTM apple was created by the process of cross pollination? This is a process which frequently occurs in nature, usually by bees and other insects hopping from one variety of apple tree to the next. So the newer varieties of apples are certainly not artificial as they would have most likely been created by nature someday if people did not help speed up the process!
